Bionanopark joins the fight against coronavirus

Bionanopark supports Medical University of Lodz in diagnosing and treating patients infected with coronavirus. On special conditions, we lent our modern laboratory equipment to the Central Teaching Hospital seated in Pomorska Str. Our devices enable fast and precise sample diagnostics of patients who might be infected with COVID-19.

– Fast and effective actions are now essential to stop spreading the virus as fast as possible. It is an unpresedented situation, therefore we decided to stop our projects and lend our laboratory equipment to help saving human health and lifes. – says Marek Cieślak, Bionanopark’s Chairman of the Board.

The equipment transferred to the Central Teaching Hospital are Thermocycler for Real-Time PCR LightCycler 480 II (Roche), Real-Time PCR (Agilent), two ThermoShakers (Biometra) and two minispin centrifuges (Eppendorf). Thus far, the equipment was located in our Personalized Medicine Laboratory. The apparatus was plugged and configurated under the supervision of one of our scientists – Dariusz Jarych and it is now ready for use.

The virology laboratory launched by the Central Clinical Hospital together with scientific and research units of the Medical University of Lodz, Bionanopark, University of Lodz and the Polish Academy of Sciences will start operating on Monday, March 23, 2020. It will be headed by prof. Maciej Borowiec. Procedural issues are being finalized and the laboratory is waiting for the necessary tests and reagents.
