Professors

Professor Janusz Szemraj, MD, PhD specializes in molecular biology. He graduated in biology at the University of Lodz. He received a doctoral degree in the Department of Biochemistry at the Medical Academy in Łódź (1993). He obtained the postdoctoral degree in the Department of Medical Biochemistry at the Medical University of Lodz (2007). The title of professor of medical science given by the decision of the President of the Republic of Poland (2014). In 1993-97 he completed scientific internships at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, University of Texas, Houston, USA, and in 2000-2001 at AMC. Cancer Research Center, University of Colorado, Denver, USA. Winner of several dozens of awards and distinctions, including in 1998, the Women’s Association for Breast Cancer Research (Denver, USA), the Individual Award of the Minister of Health in 2013, or the Individual Award for the Lifetime Rector of the Medical University in 2017. He manages the Department of Medical Biochemistry at the Department of Medical Biochemistry at the Medical University of Lodz and the Medical Faculty at the Lazarski University. From 2015, he was employed as a scientific leader in the Bionanopark laboratories. Member of the Scientific Council of the Medical Biology Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences (2012-2020), the Senate Committee for Publishing Affairs (2004-2008) and the Senate Committee for Science of the University of Lodz in 2016-2020. Reviewer of academic grants at NCN, NCBR, expert in the NCN panel. Author and co-author of 7 chapters in textbooks. 300 congress reports at national and international conferences. Author of 216 scientific papers, including original and casuistic, published in peer-reviewed foreign journals 200 works IF 741,12 MNiSW 3605, Index H = 25, citation of works: 2226 (2014 without own citations).

Professor Bogdan Walkowiak, MD, PhD graduated in physics at the University of Lodz. Immediately after graduation, he began his scientific work at the Biophysics Department of the Medical Academy in Łódź. In 1985 he received a PhD degree in natural sciences, and in 1989-90 he completed a scientific internship at the State University of New York, USA. In the following years he completed eleven short-term internships in Austria (Perkin Elmer – 1992, Pharmacia LKB – 1993, Amersham Pharmacia Biotech – 2000, 2001), Greece (Pharmacia Biotech – 1998, Amersham Biosciences – 1999, 2002), Sweden (BiaCore – 2000) , France (AlphaMos – 2009), Germany (MicroCal – 2011) and UK (GE Healthcare Lifesciences – 2011). From 1994 he was a habilitated doctor, and since 2003 a titular professor of medical sciences in the field of medical biology. Since 2000, he has been managing the Biophysics Department of the Lodz University of Technology. Until 2011 he was also employed at the Medical University of Lodz, and since 2012 he has been employed at Bionanopark Sp. z o.o. as a scientific leader of the Bionanopark laboratories, being a co-author of the BioNanoPark project, co-financed by the EU. Currently, he represents Poland in the Nanomaterials Expert Group of the European Chemicals Agency in Helsinki. He is the author / co-author of over 90 original scientific papers (Web of Science: IC – above 890, h-index – 17). He is the promoter of 10 completed PhDs. Has the co-authorship of one granted patent (P-399899) and two patent applications (P-412807, EP15461575.1). Professor’s research area includes biophysics, molecular and cell biology, the role of platelets in the coagulation system, analysis of benefits and threats resulting from the introduction of new materials and products of nanotechnology, regenerative medicine, personalized medicine – individual implants, bioeconomy.
